Science Museum London - SUPERBUGS
The SUPERBUGS exhibition explores antibiotic resistance from micro to macro scale through personal stories. A 20 meter long illuminated curiosity wall challenges the traditional division of the exhibit by solid walls, and frees up floor space while incorporating existing resting areas. The gallery can be approached from either side and the illumined ‘billboard’ invites visitors to come closer.
The curiosity wall is a transition of narrow to wider display cases recessed into an existing steel structure. The the display illustrate the story of antibiotic resistance from micro to macro scale - from the abstract form of real bacteria culture, through the personal stories of the people who fight bacteria, to today’s global search for new antibiotics. The mix of everyday objects, films, audio, interactive games, props, backlit illustrations as wells petri dishes with real bacteria, are arranged and coordinated as a scenography enhancing each narrative while maintaining an overall feel.
Our experience working from “with-in” the museum with exhibition design and collections for has gained us with a strong understanding museum visitors, their behaviour, and how to design for all.
