King John’s Castle
King John’s Castle in Limerick, Ireland is a remarkable heritage building, a well-preserved 700-year-old Norman fortification and the stronghold around which the city grew to become what it is today.
Galmstrup Architects were commissioned by Discover Limerick to prepare the masterplan for the Castle and its environs. As one of Limerick’s most iconic landmarks, and significant as one of Irelands foremost heritage buildings, the Castle has a key role in attracting visitors to the city, driving tourism growth and stimulating economic and social regeneration. The masterplan will provide strategic thinking and define a roadmap for transforming King John’s Castle into a world-class, must-see, visitor attraction.
The Castle masterplan is centred on improving visitor experience and authenticity of the castle.
