Imaginations Cross Cultures is a non-profit sister company of Galmstrup, set up to foster greater cross cultural understanding between young people through co-creation.
Our objective is to enrich young people with a greater cross-cultural understanding through creative collaboration across professions, ages and national borders. The workshops are catalysts for change where thoughts and ideas are shared and shaped by the future generation.
Our methodology is based on teams, hands-on working, and encouraging open-ended discussions to spark curiosity and grow ideas which can be harvested and owned by local communities.
So far we have conducted summer schools as far spread as Asia, Middle East and Europe involving over 15 academic institutions from London to Rio, Beirut to Seoul. More than 200 students, educators and alumni’s of more than 30 nationalities have joined our schools, and even more have visited the resulting exhibitions.
Imaginations Cross Cultures grew out of volunteering work since 2008 and was formally registered as a non-profit limited by guarantee company in 2016 and co-directed by Robin Cole-Hamilton & Anne Marie Galmstrup.
SUMMER SCHOOLS:
We prepare and run two-weeks residential summer and winter schools internationally involving students and tutors from various cultures. Activities are focused on designing and making full scale creative responses to how a built environment can best reflect and foster a strong local cultural identity and civil society.
WORKSHOPS:
Community engagement should be real, active and shape architectural projects. With this approach we set out to co-create workshops and learn about places through their communities informing projects briefs and encourage local ownership.
UIA Seoul 2017, Summer School about Resilient Cities - A two-weeks summer school involving university students and tutors from Seoul, London, Copenhagen, Istanbul and Geovia. The summer school ran over two weeks consisting of collective walks, talks and sketches getting to know the place and each other. This was followed by building 1:1 installations in cross cultural teams exploring resilient approaches to various sites in the city of Seoul. The workshop was part of the UIA World Congress 2017 in Seoul and the work was showcased at the congress.
OPEN DOORS: Reimagining the City Museum - A winter school bringing together local high school students and a group of Imaginations alumni’s from around the world. Over 10 days we occupied a disused post office which is to be transformed into a city museum. We developed an immersive exhibition representing five intangible ideas which the young people wished for the new museum.
