Transformation of the City Museum
Museum Skanderborg, Platform One
Skanderborg, Denmark 2019 -
2,100m2 / Museum & Archive
Museum Skanderborg is moving from its existing premises to a new home in the disused 1980’s Post Office at the train station.
The new city museum will join collection and archive with an archaeological workshop, larger exhibition space and a new communal space for the city. The location at the train station propose an alternative interpretation strategy and offers the city museum as a catalyst for social interaction in a spread city. A new “waiting room” invites citizens to have a peek into the archaeological workshop, the archive becomes a salon for reading and writing and the volume above the café becomes the city’s new exhibition billboard.
The project was developed alongside a series of workgroup sessions with a cross disciplinary client team exploring the vision strategy for the new museum and developing the brief.
Our non-profit sister organisation Imaginations Cross Cultures prepared and ran a winter school with young people over 10 days at the disused post office as an alternative community engagement process. Click to learn more
